Today's painting is inspired by Erin Ireland - a passionate food reporter for CTV Morning Live, BC Living Magazine and her site, itstodiefor.ca, which serves to connect Vancouverites with the most delicious and ethically-sourced food in the city.
From Erin: This is the incredible Wedgemount Glacier, located beside Wedgemount Lake near Whistler. The two hour hike to this location is an adventure (across boulder fields and up steep mountain trails) but laying eyes on such a rare, breathtaking creation of nature was the highlight. I'd never witnessed anything more grand and beautiful in my life. One small action Erin does daily in support of the environment: Being next to a beautiful glacier like this one is a humbling experience. It reminds me of how precious nature is and how we have to protect it. Due to climate change, Earth's glaciers, including this one, have slowly been melting over time. The most impactful action we can take everyday to reduce our carbon footprints is to eat a plant-based diet. This is what I do. Knowing that one quarter pound hamburger requires over 600 gallons of water to produce is just one of the facts that made my shift towards a mainly-vegan diet easier.
